My 'lil balla

It's ACC tournament weekend and my house will be spending the weekend cheering on our 'Heels. Here's my little tarheel.

He requested that I take a picture of him doing is special spinning jump. Agility is key in becoming a great Carolina balla (that's baller, for you non-hip folks that aren't down with the lingo).

March Madness on Tobacco Road

O, Blogosphere. It is intense here. I am watching Sports Center gameday and I feel all sorts of butterflies inside. Today is THE game. Duke v. UNC. It's the rivalry of all rivalries. Carolina comes into the game as #1 in the country. But, the game is at Cameron (Duke's court) - and everyone knows that raises the intensity to new levels. Winner takes the top spot in the ACC. 'Heels lost the first matchup due to all our injuries. Both teams are now (mostly) healthy. Nevermind those upcoming tournaments... THIS is huge.

It is a cruel joke that the game is at 9pm tonight. Not only do I have to wait ALL DAY for the game in much anticipation, but it is also on the eve of Daylight Savings. I will likely be so riled up that it will me at least an hour to fall asleep.

Ya'll, there will be much yelling at the TV, tonight. Bridgers, I might be hoarse tomorrow!

"Jump Around"

Mike & I toured the brand new Carolina Basketball Museum before yesterday's game. The museum was fantastic - filled with highlights, paraphenalia, & interviews with the greats that have come through the program - Ford, Wallace, Jordan, Montrosse (my high school crush!!), Stackhouse, Reid, Worthy, Carter, Felton, May, etc. We saw the championship trophies, tons of pictures, old school basketball shorts that were heinously small (thank goodness that fad is over), and even the letter from Coach K wishing Michael Jordan well since he had chosen to play for UNC over Duke (aka "The Letter"). Priceless.

Then came the game itself. Let's just say that the first half was embarrassing and torturous to watch. We played horribly. Doesn't help that we are down to our 3rd string point guard, and our other starting guard got hurt, too. Second half started off just as poorly. We were down by as much as 15 pts. Mike even suggested we leave with the last 8:30 to go. BUT, miracles can happen. Carolina turned it around and took the game into 2 overtimes before winning 103 to 93. It was mayhem in the Dean Dome. Absolute craziness. I am hoarse from yelling. SO much fun!

Go 'Heels!

Yesterday Mike and I had a great day date! We were given *Free* tickets to the UNC v. UVA game in Chapel Hill. It was a beautiful day and was so fun, despite the disappointing loss. (How many years can we say, "it's a building year"?) Our seats couldn't have been better. One highlight - our friend's father, who was sitting next to us in his season ticket seats, invited us to join him in the Letterman's club during halftime. So, off we go to this private little club to get free lunch, drinks, and snacks in the air conditioning - and use the private potties! It was quite the hook up!

On the way to our sitter's house before the game, Jackson chanted "Go 'Heels!" over and over and over. It was cute. I can't wait to take him to some games... I don't think he's quite ready this year - or I should say, I am not ready to chase him around and try to entertain him during the game lulls. :)

Note to my family: We have tried to teach him "Go Vols!", but he confuses Vols for balls and just thinks we are talking about football in general. I'll work on it. Don't worry.

Fear the Mountaineers!!

I have to give a shout out to my alum, Appalachian State, for making history today in their defeat over Michigan - in Ann Arbor. App is the first EVER division 1-AA school to defeat a ranked division 1-A school. Michigan WAS ranked #5 in the nation.

Perhaps my mountaineers will finally get more national attention! As if winning the last 2 national 1-AA championships weren't enough! Woohoo! Go App!

Why I can't wait 'til autumn...

I love the fall and everything about it. I just get absolutely giddy with the sunny and crisp weather. No humidity. Beautiful leaf colors. The State Fair - and fair foods! Fat pumpkins. Hiking and camping. And, of course the football games...

Mike has been talking about it for over a month... reading football pre-season magazines and watching ESPN specials. He's quite obsessed. And, fortunately for him, he married a wife that fully appreciates the sport and will enthusiastically sit with him to cheer on our teams! I come from a long line of college football fanatics. Yes, even the women. My grandmothers wore their Tennessee orange every game day. Life stops briefly when the games on. I know tons of great tailgating recipes. I get it.

My family made sure that Mike got fully outfitted with Tennessee paraphernalia (mugs, shirts, pajamas, golf balls, golf shirts, flags, jackets, etc) as soon as we started dating... which seems to have the effect that they desired...he's now a fulfledged Vols fan, in addition to our beloved 'Heels. (Which is completely possible - they are in different conferences and VERY RARELY play each other).

So, while I still have to wait a bit for the rest of the signs of fall , football season starts this weekend. "IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN....." the windley house!
